A founding member of Oak Leaf Wealth Management (307’s parent company), Jon originally began his career in the mid 1980’s working for a national brokerage firm. Having grown up in New York to a single  mother who worked as an art teacher, it was instilled in him that hard work, good ethics, and never taking for granted the value of a dollar were principles to live by.

He was hired as one of the youngest financial advisers at American Express in Boston in 1985 and taught investments and modern portfolio theory to 300 planners in the Boston market. He was 25. A true academic, he served as a District manager for Amex in the Boston and metro market until he started his own practice in 1998 on Commonwealth Financial Network’s independent broker-dealer platform. The importance of becoming independent was critical, as it allowed him to make financial recommendations based on the best interests of his clients. This is where he met 307 Financial founder, Mike Zirbel. Jon had always been drawn to the mountains and moving out West, so when Mike and Jon were discussing the opportunity to merge 307 Financial and Oak Leaf Wealth Management, it just felt right. Mike and Jon had similar styles of investment management, valued the magnitude of superior client service and both agreed that the value of comprehensive financial planning (not just investment management) was critical to offer to all clients.

In line with Jon’s love of research and tenure of almost 40 years, he takes an educational role with clients, making complex theories easy to understand. He helps clients define their financial goals and guides them on the path towards achieving them.

In his free time, he can be found playing guitar, watching Bruins Hockey, reading investment and economic commentary on his iPad, or hiking in the hills. However, his most valued time spent is with his granddaughter, Rosalie, who’s a spunky two year old that loves her Papa! Jon splits his time between Massachusetts and Wyoming, with his wife Julie, and two dogs. He has two adult children that love Fremont County almost as much as he does.

Jonathan is proud to have been recognized as a Chairman’s Level advisor for 2023—a distinction based on annual production that places him among the top 3 percent of advisors affiliated with Commonwealth Financial Network.
